About LesleyLesley is a scientist, an educator, and a Board of Education member dedicated to improve education and ensure every child in the Boulder Valley School District has access to the best possible education.
In order to meet her overarching goals of 'excellence for every school, success for every student', Lesley has served BVSD in a volunteer capacity for 5 years, including:
Professionally, Lesley is director of a $2.5M NSF grant to support science education in BVSD, and leads a program to provide teacher professional development across the state on ocean & climate sciences. Since 2003, Lesley facilitated partnerships, developed educational programs and wrote grant proposals while on staff at the University of Colorado's Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) in the Science Education and Outreach Program. Some of Lesley's accomplishments during her 4 years as an active member of the BVSD Board of Education include:
Prior to joining CIRES, Lesley spent 15 years as a research scientist focusing on environmental issues that affect quality of life. Lesley has lived in Boulder, Colorado for 20 years, is married and has two children at BVSD schools. She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
She received her B.A. in Aquatic Biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and Ph.D. in Marine Environmental and Estuarine Sciences from the University of Maryland. She first came to Boulder as a Visiting Science Fellow with CIRES. |
