Science Classes

Professionally, Lesley is director of a $2.5M NSF grant to support science education in BVSD, and leads a program to provide teacher professional development across the state on ocean & climate sciences.

Since 2003, Lesley facilitated partnerships, developed educational programs and wrote grant proposals while on staff at the University of Colorado's Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) in the Science Education and Outreach Program.

Some of Lesley's accomplishments during her 4 years as an active member of the BVSD Board of Education include:

  • Initiated, successfully passed, and provide oversight for $298M bond project to improve facilities for each of our 54 school buildings
  • Conducted successful superintendent search
  • Instituted measurable 5-year goals in areas of achievement, equity, climate - the superintendent is held accountable for achieving these goals
  • Developed sound fiscal policies that helped earn the district a AAA rating and thus saved the taxpayers money through a better bond rate
  • Promoted the use of a collaborative interest-based bargaining process which resulted in a successful two-year contract starting in 05/06, and which I hope will again be successful in the near future
  • Conducted nutrition study which lead to improvement in the quality of food we serve in all our cafeterias
  • Instrumental in moving the district toward a sustainable/green future
  • Served as school board Vice-President since 2007

Prior to joining CIRES, Lesley spent 15 years as a research scientist focusing on environmental issues that affect quality of life.

Lesley has lived in Boulder, Colorado for 20 years, is married and has two children at BVSD schools. She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.
